How to cut out a product image

  1. Photograph the product on a plain, evenly lit surface. Contrast with the background matters more than megapixels.

  2. Drop the JPEG, PNG or WebP into cutoutpic. The subject is detected automatically — there is nothing to select.

  3. Download the transparent PNG. For a white main image, place it over a white canvas in any editor; for lifestyle ads, put it on the scene you like.

What works well and what does not

  • Works well: a single item with a clear outline — bottles, boxes, shoes, bags, electronics, ceramics — on a plain background.
  • Harder: glass and transparent objects, chrome and mirrors (the model sees the reflection as part of the scene), thin straps, mesh and lace.
  • Shadows: a hard shadow that touches the product is often kept as part of it. Diffuse light or a slight lift off the surface avoids this.
  • Multiple items: the model tends to keep all prominent objects; if you want one, crop before you start.

Marketplace background rules

Amazon requires the main image on pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255); Etsy, eBay and Shopify accept transparent or any clean background. cutoutpic gives you the transparent cutout — composing it onto white or a colour is a one-step job in the editor you already use. Check each marketplace’s current rules before uploading; they change.

Resolution and batch work

The free preview is capped at 1280 px on the longer side, which is enough for most listing thumbnails and web use; hero images and print need more, and a paid full-resolution export is planned for that. Images are processed one at a time — drop the next one as soon as the previous download is done.

Can I use this for Amazon listing images?

You get a transparent PNG; Amazon wants the main image on pure white. Place the PNG on a white background in an editor, export as JPEG or PNG, and check Amazon’s size requirements before uploading.

Will it remove the shadow under my product?

Sometimes. A soft, detached shadow is usually removed; a hard shadow touching the product is often kept. Shoot with diffuse light, or clean the shadow up afterwards.

Are my product photos kept anywhere?

No — the free preview uploads nothing, so there is nothing for us to keep.
